Someone is moving in with me
Has someone new joined your household? A change in the number of occupants must be reported – it affects service advances and, for foreigners, statutory reporting duties. Here’s what to do.
Change in the number of occupants
The number of occupants affects how some services are split (e.g. waste, common areas, the lift). Reporting it prevents arrears at the annual settlement.
Check your lease
Some leases require the landlord’s consent to take an additional person into the flat. Check your lease or ask us.
Report the change to us
Tell us the number of occupants and the date from which the change applies. We’ll update the advance payments and the occupant records accordingly.
Adjusting the advances
Depending on the number of occupants, we may adjust the monthly advances so they match actual consumption and you avoid a large arrears bill.
When the new occupant is a foreigner
Foreign nationals have a statutory reporting duty. It also applies to a person moving in with you.
Reporting the stay to the foreign police
A foreign national must report their place of stay to the competent authority (foreign police / Ministry of the Interior), generally within 3 working days of accommodation, unless the accommodation provider does so. A registration form is used for this.
- Completing the foreign national’s registration form
- Proof of identity and residence permit
- Where required, a confirmation of accommodation – more here
The exact deadlines and duties are governed by the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals. We’re happy to advise and provide the form.
